Quick login guide
- Open Trezor Suite — Use the official app at suite.trezor.io or the desktop application you downloaded from Trezor’s site.
- Connect your device — Plug your Trezor hardware wallet into your computer or compatible mobile device with the supplied cable. The device will power on and display a welcome screen.
- Enter your PIN on the device — When prompted, enter your PIN using the on-device randomized keypad. The PIN is never sent to your computer or the internet.
- Unlock in Trezor Suite — Confirm the connection in Trezor Suite. The Suite will reveal your account balances and transaction history once the device is authenticated.
- Verify addresses on-device — Whenever you send or receive funds, always verify addresses shown in Trezor Suite by confirming the address on your Trezor’s screen.
Security features that protect your login
- PIN protection — Prevents unauthorized access if your device is lost or stolen.
- Offline private keys — Private keys never leave the Trezor device, keeping them isolated from malware and remote attackers.
- Passphrase (optional) — Adds an additional, user-chosen secret. When enabled, the passphrase creates a separate hidden wallet that only opens when the exact passphrase is entered.
- Firmware verification — Trezor Suite verifies official firmware signatures before installation to prevent tampered firmware.
Using a passphrase — power + risk
A passphrase gives you a stealth wallet (an additional layer of protection) but it has trade-offs: losing the passphrase means you cannot access those funds, and anyone who knows it can restore the wallet. Use it only if you understand these implications. Never enter your passphrase into websites or apps — it must be typed only on your device or into the official Suite when requested.
Recovery seed: your ultimate backup
When you create a Trezor wallet, the device gives you a recovery seed (12/18/24 words). This seed is the only secure way to restore access if your device is lost, damaged, or stolen. Store it offline — on paper, or better, on a fire- and water-resistant metal backup. Never photograph, email, or store the seed on a digital device.
Troubleshooting common login problems
Device not recognized
Try a different USB cable or port. Make sure your computer has the latest OS updates and that you’ve installed the official Trezor Suite. Avoid USB hubs during initial troubleshooting.
Forgot PIN
If you forget your PIN, the only way to regain access is to perform a device reset and restore your wallet using your recovery seed. If you do not have your recovery seed, the funds are unrecoverable.
Passphrase issues
If you used a passphrase and can’t remember it precisely, that hidden wallet cannot be restored. Try to recall subtle variations (typos, capitalization, spacing) — passphrases are exact.
Firmware or Suite update problems
Only update firmware and software through official channels. If an update fails, follow on-screen instructions in Trezor Suite or visit support.trezor.io for recovery steps.
Best practices for secure logins
- Always download Trezor Suite from trezor.io.
- Verify device authenticity at first use — check the tamper-evident packaging.
- Keep your recovery seed offline and hidden in a secure place.
- Use a unique, strong PIN and consider an additional passphrase only if you understand the risks.
- Never share your seed, PIN, or passphrase with anyone — not even support staff.
